Tour to Douz for  camel ride in the desert in the heart of the great Oriental Erg of southern Tunisia.
7 day trip, for a unique experience of caravans crossing the desert, nights camping in the desert.

This tour is open from October to April.

Camel ride

In camel trekking, you have one riding camel to share with other participants. This is what we recommend most often. Indeed, people rarely go up along the circuit. A camel is not very comfortable. Camels also carry your luggage.

Young children can eventually ride two on a camel

 

Trek

In trek version, you only walk. Camels are exclusively intended for portering.

If necessary, a dromedary "emergency" can be relieved to carry you.

 

Day 1: Djerba > Douz

Transfer from Djerba, Gabes and Tozeur to Douz, dinner and night at the hotel.

 

Day 2:

After breakfast, departure from Douz 4x4 by tracks and dunes to the mountain plateau Tembaine (about 4 hours). We will meet our Bedouin guides and their dromedaries, left from Douz for 3 days. Lunch in the desert.

After lunch, we leave for our first leg of our camel trek.

Dinner and night under tents in the desert.

Days 3 and 4:

After breakfast, the dromedaries loaded, we leave.

The caravan moves away in the dunes of Grand Erg Oriental. Now, only the position of the sun will determine our schedule.

The caravan crosses the sea of ​​sand. The daily stages are 10 to 20 km for a duration of 3 to 6 hours of walking, with lunch breaks for lunch. Cooking is done on the campfire, our guides cook daily fresh bread rolls in the hot sand. The dromedaries are loaded and unloaded twice a day.

It is at the end of the afternoon of the 4th day that we reach our goal, the hot spring lake, Lake Houidhat Erreched, which is located in the middle of high dunes. Here we find a large number of bird species.

 

We spend the evening and the morning of the 5th day on the spot, to take advantage of this exceptional place, and also so that camels rest. Why not take a relaxing bath in the hot spring at a water temperature above 30 degrees?

 

All parties are around the campfire, it is a friendly moment of exchange and sharing.

 

Days 5, 6 and 7:

After lunch, we leave leaving behind this beautiful place, We take the path of the dunes. We collect wood for the campfire and simply enjoy the peace and fullness.

On the 7th day, the mountain plateau of Tembaine is in sight, we will take our last lunch in the desert.

 

After greeting our camel drivers, we return in 4X4 to your hotel or airport.
