Day trip to Ksar Ghilane in the Tunisian desert.
We will take you for a day in the heart of the great Oriental Erg of southern Tunisia.

Camel trekking in the desert to Ksar Ghilane to discover the nomadic life of yesteryear.
3 hours of unforgettable walk in the silence of the Sahara desert.

Djerba > Ksar Ghilane > Djerba.

  • Djerba or Zarzis, supported by our guide, early in the morning, then drive to Ksar Ghilane.

  • Coffee break and photos in a cafe in the desert, in the middle of nowhere.

  • Arrival at the Oasis of Ksar Ghilane.

  • We will meet our camel guides and their dromedaries

  • Departure for the trek of three hours on the back of dromedary in the dunes of ocher sand.

  • Lunch in the desert: Tunisian salad, grilled meat, bread baked in the sand.

  • Departure for return to Djerba in 4X4 and deposit at your hotel or at the airport.

Ksar Ghilane.

The southernmost of the Tunisian oases and one of the doors of the desert of the Tunisian Sahara, the oasis is fed by a source of hot water in which one can bathe and which would have thermal virtues.
As the name suggests (ksar means castle), not far from Ksar Ghilane a fort dating from Roman times, Tisavar, located on the edge of the desert.

The Tunisian government proposed it on February 17, 2012 for a future ranking on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

 

One kilometer to the east there is a stele, which testifies to the passage of General Leclerc and his army in 1943 during the battle of Ksar Ghilane. It bears the following inscription:

"Here, from February 23 to March 10, 1943, General Leclerc and Force L, who came from Chad, victoriously supported the assault of the enemy forces, inflicting severe losses on them. "
